`An evening of celebrating cultural diversity`
The Peace Islands Institute (PII) organized its 10th annual Friendship Dinner and Peace Awards Ceremony at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel on Thursday, September 26th. The turnout for the event was spectacular thanks to our distinguished guests, including community leaders, peace activists, policy advisers, businesspersons, and academics from a variety of fields.
The event was hosted by journalist Emily Rooney from WGBH. Ms. Rooney’s energy and Keynote Speaker Mariama White-Hammond’s inspirational and enthusiastic remarks made the night even more memorable. The guests also enjoyed a beautiful live music performance by Vivian Montgomery and Molly McGuire.
The theme of this year was “The Power of Women” and the awardees, who are powerful women working to make this world a better place for everyone, Tina Chery, Founder & President of Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, Anne Cheung, Co-founder & Director of A2Empowerment and, Cemre Ulker, Founder & Representative of Set Them Free. Even if these three awardees are coming from various paths of life and working on different countries of the world, what they have in common is they all have touching and inspiring stories and their undying commitment to put their great efforts into their work.
Also, NBA Star and human rights activist Enes Kanter, center of Boston Celtics, was gold sponsor of the night. And he was awarded Peace Plaque for his work and efforts to achieve a better world as the tallest and biggest feminist of the ceremony.
